Different apps use different calculation methods. Athan supports 12 major methods (ISNA, MWL, Egyptian General Authority, Umm Al-Qura, etc.). Go to Settings and select the method recommended by scholars in your region for the most accurate times.
Open the app and tap the gear icon on the Prayers screen to access Settings. Under "Calculation Method," choose from the 12 supported methods. The prayer times will update immediately.
Yes — use the arrow buttons on either side of the date on the Prayers screen to navigate forward or backward. The date label updates to show "Today," "Tomorrow," or the specific date.
Period Mode is a discreet toggle at the bottom of the Prayers screen. When enabled, it dims the prayer cards and hides the tracking and notification UI, showing a "Prayer tracking paused" banner instead. It's designed for days when prayer tracking isn't applicable.
Premium ($3.99, one-time) unlocks: audio Adhan for each prayer, full Quran audio recitation, Lives of the Prophets, Duas & Supplications, and daily reminder notifications. It's a permanent purchase — no subscriptions.
Go to the Premium screen within the app and tap "Restore Purchase." Make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID used for the original purchase. The app will verify your purchase with Apple and restore access instantly.
Currently Athan is available on iOS only. Android support may come in a future update.
Refunds are handled directly by Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with your Apple ID to request a refund for any App Store purchase.
The Quran content is fetched from the internet the first time you open a surah, then cached on your device. Make sure you have an active internet connection for the initial load. Once cached, surahs load instantly without a connection.
Transliteration (romanized pronunciation) appears in gold between the Arabic text and the English translation for every verse. It's always visible and free for all users — no toggle or setting required.
Tap the bookmark icon in the top-right corner of any verse card. Bookmarks are saved to your device and accessible from the Quran tab. Tap the same icon to remove a bookmark.
Quran audio recitation requires Premium. Once unlocked, tap the play button on any verse to hear it, or use "Play All" in the surah header to listen to the entire surah sequentially.
First, check that notifications are enabled in Settings → per-prayer toggles. Then verify that Athan has permission to send notifications in your iPhone's Settings → Athan → Notifications. Make sure "Allow Notifications" is turned on and that notifications aren't set to "Deliver Quietly."
Yes — in the app's Settings screen, there are individual toggles for each of the five prayers plus Sunrise. Enable only the prayers you want to be notified for.
Yes. Notifications are scheduled locally on your device and will arrive even if the app is closed or in the background.
Tap "Open Settings" on the location error screen. In your iPhone's Settings, find Athan and set Location to "While Using the App" or "Always." Return to Athan and it will automatically detect your location.
Calibrate your device's compass by moving your iPhone in a figure-8 pattern several times. Make sure you're away from metal objects, speakers, or magnetic cases that can interfere. The Qibla compass uses your device's magnetometer for real-time direction.
Yes — all prayer time calculations are done on-device using the Adhan library. No internet is required for prayer times, Qibla direction, Tasbih counter, or Ramadan tracking. Internet is only needed for the first load of each Quran surah and Quran audio playback.
